The body of an unidentified 45-year-old man was found in a reservoir near Soufey Stadium. According to the Los Angeles Times, the man entered the stadium parking lot at 6:01 a.m. and then jumped into the water and began to swim toward the center of the artificial body of water.

Arena security guards called the police and fire department. By the time they arrived at the reservoir, the man was already in the water. Divers retrieved his body at 9:48 a.m.

Inglewood Mayor James Butts said the man has not been identified and no one knows why he entered the stadium grounds and jumped into the water.

“The man made a deliberate decision to enter the grounds, jump into the water, and then had some difficulty after that. I don’t think there was anything any stadium security could have done in that situation,” Butts said.

The drowning was another victim of a string of accidents accompanying the construction and opening of Soufey Stadium, where the Rams and Chargers play. During construction of the arena in 2020, one worker fell off the stadium roof and crashed to his death, and another died of a cocaine overdose and overheating.

Shortly after the opening, the body of a homeless man with a neck laceration was found at the foot of the stadium. A fourth death occurred in December 2020, when a worker died during construction at the stadium.
