NFL club owners are meeting in New York this week to discuss pressing issues. One of those issues is the contract of commissioner Roger Goodell. The owners voted to have the finance committee open negotiations to extend the commissioner’s agreement. Discussion of the matter led to a heated debate.

The vote ended with a 31-1 result in favor of opening negotiations. The only one who voted against was Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. According to ESPN, Jones skirmished with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft and even said at one point: “Don’t *** [compost] my brain.”

“What did you say?” asked Kraft.

“Don’t mess with me,” Jones replied.

Jones is said to have been unhappy with Goodell’s compensation structure. Allegedly, the leverage for bonuses was spelled out too vaguely instead of being specifically tied to easily measurable financial goals. This has bothered Jones in the past as well.

Be that as it may, the decision passed, which means Goodell has support among the owners. He will soon be offered a two- or three-year contract.
